This is the Chrysler Building. It was completed in 1929. Though the Chrysler corporation was going to pay for the cost of the building, Walter Chrysler paid for it out of his own pocket because he wanted his children to inherit it. It was built during a race to build the tallest skyscraper in New York. It was built so fast, that on average four floors were built every week! It was finished very quickly, and was the tallest building in New York for eleven months, after which the record was taken by Empire State Building.

In 2007, the AIA,(American Institute of Architecture) put it in ninth place for List of America's Favorite Architecture. It is thought the greatest building in New York by many contemporary architects. It has been used in many TV shows, movies, posters, and other media things. Overall, it is a very famous and recognizable building.

It is designed in a style of architecture called Art-Deco. Some are of the decorations are for example:

  • The eagles that are in pairs on each corner of the 61st floor were replicas of the hood ornaments used on 1929 Chryslers.

  • On the corners of the 31st floors, there were decorations that were replicas of 1929 Chrysler radiator caps.
