Canterbury Cathedral

(I decided to change from only cathedrals in England to cathedrals worldwide)

Canterbury Cathedral is one of the most famous cathedral's that have been built, and is located in Canterbury,  Kent, United Kingdom. At it's tallest point, it is 190 ft. tall. It's first bishop was the famous Augustine.  It is the cathedral were the famous Archbishop Thomas Becket was murdered. It was totally finished in 1834 after many additions. The architect of the cathedral many different people adding different additions. As you can see, it has the characteristics of all Gothic cathedrals: the high vaulted ceilings, the groin vaults that compose the ceiling. As is the case with many cathedrals, it has a large bell tower at the crossing of the transept and the nave. To me, this cathedral is less imposing and grand than other Gothic structures. Instead it look more delicate, with a decoration that gives it a lace-like look. I am going to be posting on a good number of cathedrals. Merry Christmas!
